Frequently Asked Questions

HOW DO YOU TRAVEL SO LIGHT?

It is all about planning! Prior to traveling we make full itineraries, including where we are going, expected climate, appropriate attire, and weather predictions. We then synthesize the information from each destination we are visiting on the trip and try to pack items that are as versatile and durable as possible. We also plan our outfits together so that we pack different things that we can share! Our other, most important hack is to use packing cubes! They are complete game changers.

DO YOU USE A TRAVEL COMPANY TO PLAN YOUR TRIPS?

We get this question all the time and the answer is no! We do all of the research and planning ourselves.

HOW DO YOU PLAN YOUR TRIPS?

To be honest, it takes us weeks of tireless research and planning – which we actually both enjoy doing! We start with a destination, create a shared google document, and spend every waking second (when we are not working or blogging) scanning every travel blog, magazine, travel Instagram, etc. planning out exactly where we want to go, where to stay, the best local airlines, the best restaurants, best activities, recommended number of days, etc. We also love to get recommendations from friends and other travelers to further aid in our planning. This time consuming process seems to be the main reason so many people never go on extensive, adventure filled vacations… Which is why we are so honored and excited to share our travel guides with you guys and help you reach your travel dreams without all of the extra work!

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE TO TRAVEL INTERNATIONALLY DURING THE PANDEMIC?

Make sure to research the country’s health entry requirements prior to travel via the CDC, the embassy, AND the airline. Requirements are changing constantly, which can get a bit confusing. Make sure to be at your gate a minimum of 60 minutes prior to boarding, and to have your documents reviewed with the gate agent. Additionally, we recommend taking precautions when you travel to avoid being infected with COVID-19. The last thing you want to do is end up in a hospital in a foreign country. Depending upon the country you are traveling to, you may also want to look into travel insurance as well – rather safe than sorry.

WHAT MEDICATIONS DO YOU USUALLY BRING WITH YOU WHILE TRAVELING?

As a Family Nurse Practitioner, we travel with an entire pharmacy just to be safe. But don’t panic, this is not always necessary! We do recommend traveling with the following: NSAIDs (like ibuprofen), over the counter antidiarrheal agent, over the counter constipation medication, tums, antihistamine for allergies, neosporin, bandaids, benadryl for sleep issues or allergic reactions, alcohol wipes, and a decongestant. In terms of prescription medications, I always recommend getting an antibiotic prescription for travelers diarrhea, medicine to prevent malaria (depending on your destination), and any other prescriptions you take regularly.

WHAT STEPS DO YOU TAKE TO TRAVEL AFFORDABLY?

For us, it all comes down to planning in advance, spending hours looking for the best deals, being willing to fly economy and sometimes even choosing the cheaper hotel option. To us, traveling isn’t just about relaxing or being on a holiday; it’s about experiencing cultures, pushing our comfort zones, gaining new perspectives, and venturing into the unknown. And luckily, we tend to find these experiences more when staying in hostels, going on free walking tours, and backpacking around the world.
